Marble Roller Coaster
Every year, more than 300 million people ride roller coasters at U.S. amusement parks, generating more than $9 billion in revenue. The challenge is to keep roller coasters thrilling, but still keep them safe for the public. Recent designs have increased the danger and excitement through higher structures reaching extreme speeds, and including tracks with loops and upside movements. The students challenge is to design and build a roller coaster that safely keeps a glass marble on track from start to finish throughout the ride.
